Not being able to talk is not the same as having nothing to say

Fiona Given, attorney and winner of the ISAAC (International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication) 2014 Outstanding Consumer Award

Females with Rett syndrome are lovingly referred to as “Silent Angels” because they lose their ability to speak. This devastating genetic neurological disorder, robs them of almost all function, leaving them completely and totally dependent.  Rett syndrome imprisons girls in their own bodies. Despite the loss of function, the girls are very expressive and communicative and understand what is happening around them.

A girl with Rett syndrome possesses all the symptoms of someone with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis AND autism.  All of this suffering in one little girl!

While Rett syndrome is perhaps not as well-known as the above mentioned disorders, we have very encouraging news.  The gene responsible for Rett syndrome has been identified!

This gene discovery propels us closer than ever to finding a cure.

Your generosity will help our angels break their silence.
